Kraig A. Melville, BMSc, MD, FACEP, FAAEM, Medical Director - Maryland
Dr. Melville is board certified in Emergency Medicine and currently serves as an Emergency Medicine
Physician for the University of Maryland Medical System. He previously served as Chief, Emergency
Medicine from 2000-2010 at Calvert Memorial Hospital. Dr. Melville has served as Procare’s Medical Director
since 2008. He oversees Procare’s Quality Management Program, provides our staff with hands-on training,
and helps ensure full compliance with all State Medical Protocols, among other things, which make him an invaluable resource to all staff at Procare. Dr Melville’s vast experience in emergency medicine, with a focus
on cardiac, stroke and pediatric patients, is a perfect fit for Procare. He was instrumental in founding
Procare’s successful STEMI transportation program, which has significantly improved patient outcomes and increased survival rates for our STEMI patients. Dr. Melville has garnered many awards for his contributions
to emergency medicine, his patients and the communities he has served, including Hero of Emergency
Medicine award, Teaching Excellence awards, MAPA Physician of the Year award, Distinguished Service
Award, and Outstanding Achievement award. Dr. Melville shares Procare’s sentiment that with teamwork
we can accomplish great things and change the lives of others. Procare is proud to have Dr. Melville as part
of our team.
Barry P. Shapiro, M.D., FACEP, is Procare’s Medical Director - Washington, D.C.
Dr. Shapiro brings over 30 years of experience in emergency medicine to Procare. Dr. Shapiro has served
as an attending physician in the Emergency Department at Washington Adventist Hospital, Holy Cross
Hospital, and Laurel Regional Hospital and is the co-owner of an urgent care center. He is currently
providing compassionate care as an attending physician for Maryland Emergency Medicine Network
Physicians at Laurel Regional Hospital and Bowie Medical Center. Dr. Shapiro oversees Procare’s
Washington, D.C. operations with the support of Dr. Melville.
William R. Rogers, General Manager
William Rogers has been serving Procare since December, 2010. William has over 25 years of experience in the private commercial ambulance industry. He began his career in 1987 as an EMT-A. During his long career, he has been a Dispatch Supervisor, Operations Manager, and General Manager. Will's priority is hiring and retaining highly trained and professional providers and ensuring on-time performance for Procare. Will also serves on Procare’s Medical Review Committee and enforces Procare’s Exposure Control and Respiratory Protection Plans, which have been approved by MIEMSS. With his experience in the industry William is a critical component of the Procare team.
Melissa Rasmussen, RN, Nurse Manager
Melissa has been a critical care RN for over 15 years. Melissa has been serving Procare as Procare’s Nurse Manager since June, 2009. Melissa is in integral part of Procare’s Quality Management team and Medical Review Committee. Melissa reviews 100% of Procare’s patient care reports for SCT transports and provides call screening services to Procare.
John Barnas, CCEMTP, ALS Coordinator, Ethics and Compliance Officer and Clinical Management
John Barnas is a critical care paramedic who serves as Procare's Ethics and Compliance Officer. John works hand in hand with Procare's billing department and the President to ensure compliance with all applicable laws, rules and regulations.
Justin Kram, CCEMTP, Quality Assurance Officer, Safety Officer, and Clinical Management
Justin Kram is a critical care paramedic who serves as Procare's Quality Assurance Officer. Justin works directly with Procare's Medical Director to review 100% of Procare's patient care reports. Thorough review of all patient care reports ensures that Procare is constantly monitoring and improving quality and performance. Justin also serves on the Medical Review Committee.
Mike Saval, CCEMTP, Training Officer and Clinical Management
Mike Saval is a critical care paramedic who has been serving Procare since August, 2009. Mike is responsible to ensure that all Procare EMS providers are trained upon hire and annually, as required by Maryland regulations and Procare’s training standards, including its Employee Orientation Plan, which has been approved by MIEMSS. In addition, Mike references the Maryland Medical Protocols and Maryland regulations daily to provide Procare with a critical review of patient care reports, to provide ongoing training to Procare’s EMS providers, and to constantly improve Procare’s quality of clinical care. Mike also serves on the Medical Review Committee.
Pamela Gatewood, Communications Center Supervisor
Pam oversees the Communications Center and all Procare Communications Specialists. Pam works hard to ensure that our facility clients and patients are getting the top notch service they deserve and have come to expect from Procare.
